What it means when you bill by the day
When you bill by the day, the number of working days sets your revenue. In 2027, May has 19 and December has 23: at a day rate of €475, that is a €1,900 difference on your invoice for the same work.
How many days you actually bill after leave, illness and admin, and what rate you need for that: work it out with the day rate calculator.
A public holiday at the weekend
In 2027, Labour Day (Saturday 1 May), Assumption Day (Sunday 15 August) and Christmas Day (Saturday 25 December) fall at the weekend. Employees then get a replacement day. For a self-employed freelancer that rule does not apply: you decide yourself whether to take another day off.
Not public holidays
The holidays of the Flemish, French and German-speaking Communities (11 July, 27 September and 15 November) are not public holidays, and neither is 26 December. For most companies they are ordinary working days. If you work for a public body, ask whether it is open that day.
